Fillings, Inlays & Onlays
At Shumack Dental our experienced dentists provide two types of dental restorations to return the tooth to its former glory; direct and indirect restorations.
Filling - Direct restoration
This is a simple procedure whereby a resin material is placed into a carefully prepared cavity to replace the part of the tooth that has been lost. At Shumack Dental, this procedure can be performed in the one appointment under local anaesthetic.
Inlays & Onlays- Indirect restoration
Inlays & Onlays in comparison to a filling, provide greater longevity as they are less susceptible to tooth decay. The procedure involves two appointments; the first to carefully prepare the cavity and the second to cement a custom built ceramic.
The benefits of this treatment option are:
The ceramic is consdierably more durable than regular filling material.
Any gap that exists between the ceramic and the tooth is filled by the adhesive cement. This reduces the risk of tooth decay developing in the future.
Whilst more work goes into restoring a tooth in this way, studies have shown that an inlay or onlay lasts a considerably longer than a regular filling.
