Endodontic Treatment (Root Canal treatment)
Root canal therapy (RCT) is a treatment designed to preserve a tooth that has been severely affected by tooth decay, cracking or trauma.
It is not uncommon for patients to feel uneasy about undergoing Root Canal Therapy. Our first priority is to alleviate the pain and discomfort that you are experiencing and putting in place a treatment plan that gives you peace of mind.
What to expect
The procedure usually involves 2-3 appointments. With the use of anaesthesia, the process simply involves accessing the middle of the tooth, rinsing away the infection, placing a medicine (which we often leave in the tooth for a period of time) and on the last appointment, placing a restoration (filling).
Depending on the state of the tooth and where it sits in the mouth, a new crown or an onlay may be suggested. This is an important step to prevent a fracture of the tooth or bacteria from re-entering.
